NEW CASTLE — No arrests have been made after a club security guard was shot in the leg early yesterday morning.
New Castle police were called around 3 a.m. to the Elks Lodge at West Home and Moravia streets, where they found that a 46-year-old security guard had been hit by gunfire.
Police said patrons were leaving the bar around closing time. They found a live .45-caliber bullet, a spent round and a gray knit hat, a silver hoop earring and a charm from a necklace all in a stairwell leading to the side entrance of the building, according to reports.
Police also seized a magazine from a Taurus PT-145 pistol that had five live rounds in it.
The guard, a Farrell resident, suffered a gunshot wound to the left outer upper thigh, police said. The man said he was trying to close the bar around 2:45 a.m. when an unidentified man began to fight with him in the stairwell.
The guard said multiple people then started fighting with him before someone pulled out a gun, fired one or two shots and ran away.
The guard was taken to Jameson Hospital.
